Full-time permanent role | East Melbourne | $130K-$150K + super

Hands-on leadership role in a close-knit maintenance team

Ideal for a trade-qualified fitter with FMCG experience

Our client, a well-established medium-sized food manufacturing company based in East Melbourne, is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Manager to lead their small engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive leader with strong technical skills and a background in FMCG or food production.

The successful candidate will be trade-qualified—ideally as a fitter—and confident working closely with production, quality, and R&D teams to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient plant operations. This is a leadership position for someone who enjoys both strategic planning and rolling up their sleeves to get the job done.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support a small site-based maintenance team in a hands-on capacity.
  • Drive preventative maintenance schedules and ensure high-quality, timely execution of engineering work.
  • Collaborate with production, QA, and R&D teams to proactively resolve equipment and process issues.
  • Manage capital installations, including project planning, scoping, procurement, and commissioning.
  • Maintain up-to-date trade training compliance across the team.
  • Contribute to new product development through planning and production trials.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
  • Ensure strict compliance with HACCP, GMP, and Australian standards.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Proven experience in FMCG maintenance management.
  • A trade qualification—fitter background preferred.
  • Practical experience with production planning, maintenance scheduling, and capital works.
  • A hands-on leadership style with the ability to motivate and guide a small team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of quality and safety standards including HACCP, GMP, and regulatory compliance.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong problem-solving skills.
What’s on Offer:
  • Salary of $130,000 – $150,000 + super (commensurate with experience).
  • A stable, full-time opportunity in a well-regarded food manufacturing business.
  • A dynamic and supportive environment with scope to lead and grow.
