As Publishing Director, you'll manage the life cycle of our bustling publishing company, working alongside a well-structured leadership team who are the best of the best at a domestic and international level.

Situated in the vibrant inner west of Sydney you’ll have the opportunity to work in a lively, creative, and supportive workplace where your publishing expertise will help shape the future of the companies unique and growing product range.
With nearly 100 publications and more on the horizon, you'll not only manage day-to-day operations but also travel internationally for industry events and partner meetings.

Your Impact

In this pivotal role, you will:
  • Manage a stable of bestselling international authors and illustrators
  • Develop new talent and commission titles and artwork
  • Oversee project finances and drive business growth
  • Shape the publishing landscape for our diverse product range
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to implement dynamic business strategies

The Ideal Candidate

This is an extremely fast-paced role that requires remaining calm and creative under pressure.
We're looking for a seasoned professional with:
  • 10+ years of in-house book publishing experience.
  • Thorough understanding of the publishing process
  • A keen business acumen and deep knowledge of the global publishing industry
  • Outstanding written and presentation skills and social media understanding.
  • Experience managing authors, distributor relationships and contracts.
  • Experience in nonfiction publishing (a strong advantage)
  • Editorial background is considered beneficial
  • Passion for connecting quality books with the right audience
  • Strong leadership and project management abilities
  • Tertiary-level qualifications, preferably in English or Publishing
  
Key Responsibilities
  • Create and manage the yearly publishing program
  • Drive the acquisition process through existing authors, online submissions, creative sessions, scouting through agents, feedback from trade shows
  • Manage contract creation
  • Manage authors, relationships, and new projects to ensure ongoing publishing program.
  • Manage the publishing team as per direct reports (admin assistant; Publishing manager, managing editor)
  • Planning titles, in terms of formats, costings, schedules and design briefs, feedback
  • Working with global distribution sales team and your Publishing team to lock at yearly publishing lists and product budget (forecasts and costs)
  • Reporting monthly publishing acquisition status to the executive team
  • Manage selling process to global sales teams and oversee metadata management

  • Driven, enthusiastic and hard-working
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel
