They are seeking a Research & Development Manager to drive innovation and product development in collaboration with an agile team of engineers, researchers, and healthcare professionals.
  
Role Overview
As the Research & Development Manager, you will play a key role in advancing innovative product solutions for our client. This position is heavily focused on research & development (R&D), with an emphasis on technical problem-solving, product development, and managing scientific research. You will collaborate closely with surgeons and internal stakeholders to ensure that products align with clinical needs. The role also requires some time in production and physiotherapy settings to better understand research data sources.
  
Key Responsibilities
Scientific & Research Outputs
  • Drive discussions on research priorities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and produce research proposals, study designs, and conduct literature reviews.
  • Manage data collection, research study design, and analysis, coordinating activities between research teams.
Product Development
  • Collaborate with surgeons to implement product development improvements, responding to feedback.
  • Develop prototypes and early-stage product development code, contributing to technical specifications for dedicated programming teams.
  • Work within an Agile team of engineers, developers, and researchers to iteratively improve product features.
Clinical & Commercial Participation
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with consulting surgeons to gain insights into the clinical orthopaedic environment.
  • Engage surgeons in research activities undertaken by our client, ensuring clinical input informs product and research directions.
  
Skills & Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Tertiary qualification in Medical Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.
  • PhD (or strong intent to pursue a PhD) in a related field.
  • Experience in technical writing and strong computer literacy.
  • Understanding or willingness to learn R, Python, C#, and Unity programming.
  • Familiarity with, or enthusiasm for, 3D transformation and visualisation mathematics.
Key Competencies
  • Detail-oriented with strong organisational skills.
  • Interest in pursuing a scientific/medical software career, including the possibility of an industry-linked PhD.
  • Ability to rapidly adapt and incorporate expert feedback from surgeons.
  • Willingness to learn new knowledge domains and become an expert in emerging technologies.
